Robin Kowalewsky, muralist/illustrator from Berlin, currently lives in Valparaíso, Chile. He makes the phenomenon of masking and disguise the subject of his work. Robin focuses in particular on the transformation of the self when one hides or extends one’s own identity. This is a phenomenon that can be found in all cultures of the world and is present in many aspects of life. Robin takes up this ambivalent situation in all his paintings – Who are you when you wear a mask? His motifs don’t show slogans, they tell stories that invite your own interpretation. Every time you look at them, you can discover something new, because each time you see it with different eyes. His style is reminiscent of Aztec art and idols, whereby Robin develops his own figures and there is always a portion of humour as well.
